 Final writing assignment
BUDDHIST STELE
The art which I am going to describe is named Buddhist Stele. It was created about approximately 650-800 years ago in ancient China. The medium of this art is limestone and it was during Tang dynasty period—one of the most amazing periods in Chinese history.
On the front of the stele is divided into two parts in half. The upper side is carved as five figures. In the middle of it is a Buddha who is sitting on a bloomy lotus. On the two sides of the Buddha, separately stand another two figures. At the top of the Buddha, there are three lines of little josses. The lower side is also carved as five figures just looks like the upper side.
On the left side of the stele is the inscription in Chinese. It has described that: This large icon is dedicated by Wang Shirang on behalf of the emperor, whose benevolence is as great as Emperor Xun's, transmitted through Laozi, so that heaven's blessings may be bestowed. Next on behalf of her teachers and all monks, Wang dedicates this image on behalf of the seven generations of ancestral fathers and mothers, and continuing through to the present generation that they may achieve elite social status.

Then on behalf of Grandfather Wang Longteng, who was the Official Secretariat of Taiyuan; his father Wang Sibao, who is in the county mayor; his wife; his son yan; and Mayan's (son/Wang Shirang's) grandson Haiban. The  image of Maitreya is now dedicated wholeheartedly by the nun Huixin; these carvings of thirty-five Buddhist icons are at this time donated wholeheartedly by the nun Huika.
This dynamic, affluent, liberal, and culturally diverse environment produced a great efflorescence of culture unparalleled in Chinese history. Buddhism, originally imported from India, thrived to such an extent that China itself became a major center of Buddhist learning. Significantly, Buddhist influence also resulted in the compilation of huge encyclopedias of knowledge during the Tang, preserving much earlier Chinese cultural material for posterity, and inspiring advances in mathematics and the applied sciences such as engineering and medicine.
Comparing with another stele, which is a Buddhist stele too. In the center of the sculpture, that is a set of Buddha, just looks like the former one. It includes one main Buddha in the middle, and another four figures separately stand at the two sides. At the top of the stele carved a fane, under the figures is inscription of the sculpture.

In many Buddhist traditions it is believed that making images of the Buddha is an act of merit for both artist and patron. In China, groups of lay Buddhists often pooled their resources to commission large stone plaques shown as steles. Their names are incised in registers on its bottom and sides, and a register of eight particularly prominent donors appears on the front along with generalized full-length portraits.
The inscription also contains the date, 549. This stele reflects a period when Buddhism had just begun to develop a uniquely Chinese form. The top front register, framed by two dragons, illustrates the debate between the wealthy layman Vimalakirti and the bodhisattv论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
