dies cannot be seen.
Those females who are in paintings have no facial expressions or emotions at all because they are taken as an object by a male dominant society. These paintings don't fulfill any deed or desire of a female siting or lying down as men wanted them to see. Men are responsible for women's nudity in European art because this is what men want to see in paintings. Women are flattering men from the start of the time and author says if you reverse the role of men and women a huge violence will occur because no one expect men to be an object portrayed in a painting.
Art critics also criticize that the women shown in the paintings have no existence in reality because it is not possible for women to have a very long, out of proportion backbone. Again this concept also shows that painters make what male audience wants to see in their partners and this is what charms their eyes. We see that even art is influenced by the male presence and women are only there to make male happy.
The art is also used by people who wanted to keep a good portrait of themselves from the prime of their age. It shows the very human nature that everyone wants to see himself as he/she likes. They want a memory of their past for their future to show how once we looked like and all the beauty they had in their past. Art is a window which allows us to look back into past. Everyone can go back in history of their past just by looking at the painting but the way of thinking about the past may vary.
Art was used by the people who were rich and prominent in society. They had their portraits because they wanted the sense of possession of past for themselves because you cannot stop time from changing but you can keep something special from past to look back in time once in a while. Rich had their wives or mistresses' portraits because they always wanted to look at them and feel good about it.
It also shows the image we call our, is not exactly ours but it belongs to the people who are around us or people we love. We look at ourselves and make ourselves what other people like most likely for opposite sex. We always want to attract opposite sex and sometimes same sex too but at that time we look ourselves from someone else's eye. We want to make them happy in order to keep ourselves happy.
In this chapter author shows us the paintings in which Europeans use art to show the best of their civilization. These paintings show the extravaganza of the wealth people had in those times. Europeans always connected civilization with religion and wealth and that was 'White men's Burden' all about where it is considered by white men that white race is more advanced and civilized than any other race or civilization on the earth and it is our duty to make other people civilized as us. That is the reason of different colonies in the world that is the reason Europeans conquered many civilizations just to make other people civilized.
Author also talks about the things portrayed in paintings shows the wealth of a person, it gives something to a person to show off and brag about because what is a best way to show how much money I have. Art is used in depicting many methodological creatures such as Venus, Cupid, kraken etc. it also give you a sense of power that you have conquered these creatures and have in your house.
Oil paintings of exploring era were also used to
