how effectively a company’s employees will work. Insurance is a kind of business dealing with people, which require communication most. How to select people and train them to fit their jobs in their positions needs good HRM. In addition, constant communications with employees are also important. By doing so, managers have the chance to know their employees’ ideas on management. It also helps to promote the involvement of employees in the decision-making processes, which in turn can lead to improved performance. Hence, price competitions will not be the main competitions for insurance industry any more and service quality has become an important standard for customers to judge and choose an insurance company, which directly affects the business of an insurance company. On the other hand, staff quality affects the service quality directly. So insurance companies need more confident and reliable people to gain more trust of customers and only with the successful management of human resources could an insurance company keep on attracting more talents to make contribution to the company and hold such a staff as stable as possible.
2.3 Opportunities Brought by Opening the Market
The opening of the insurance market in China provides many opportunities for our insurance companies to learn from foreign counterparts.
First, the foreign companies, entering China one after another, bring their advanced management methods, operating skills and electronic technology. Domestic companies can renew their experiences on HRM and strengthen the management of human resources further to enhance the service quality through cooperate with foreign companies. Generali China Life insurance Company Ltd. began operations in February 2002 in Guangzhou, capital of South China’s Guangdong Province which becomes the first joint-venture insurer since China joined the World Trade Organization. The new insurance company is a 50-50 joint venture found by Italy-based Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Its registered capital is 200 million Yuan (US$24 million). The insiders regarded the joint venture between CNPC and Generali as a signal to start cooperation between the Chinese-foreign giants in the Chinese insurance market. Lin Jingao, chairman of the insurance company, said “The win-win partnership will make good use of the advantage of both CNPC and Generali, and will favorably position the joint venture in the competitive but lucrative life insurance market in China.” [4] (P50)
Second, many foreign companies put large number of funds into the insurance training undertaking for their better access to China’s market. Some of them offer financial aids to Chinese students who take CII(The Chartered Insurance Institute)test and award money to those who gain ACII(Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute)and CII. As they promote themselves to the local market, all they have done take an active action to cultivate senior professionals geared to the needs of the world market.
Third, the contest for talents is so fierce that it drives China’s companies to improve their system of human resources planning and reward system. At present, there are some problems remained in the management system of the domestic insurance company.
