continue to evolve. Riordan Manufacturing must prepare for future growth in this area.
SYSTEM DESIGN / PROCESS DESIGN
Overview
Model the Pontiac and Albany plants after San Jose and Hangzhou. This will create the ability to mirror all sites. In event of a failure in a particular location, the data can be recovered from the NAS and the plants operation can continue. All software will be upgraded to a common level. Common topology along with a shared DBMS will create the opportunity to create data marts for common reporting.
Marketing, HR, Finance, Accounting and Operations will have common data sources. Maintenance becomes a non-issue in the common structure of all plants. This will reduce the overall cost of running your network and DBMS.
Finance and Accounting Systems
Install common ERP/MRP system. Enabling to use a shared DBMS will ensure all plants interact. Customer billing can be run centrally or locally giving extended process flexibility. Data feed is real-time from ledger to ledger. A data mart is created for reporting and archiving purposes.
Inventory Management
Implement bar code scanners at all receiving areas and manufacturing stock points Electronic scanning and tracking would eliminate the possibility of misplaced parts and products within the manufacturing process. Scanning and tracking would assist forecasters with establishing parts requirements for future product demand. A data mart would also keep usage information up-to-date to assist in parts and raw material forecasting. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) will be used to tie in vendors for parts requirements and delivery notification. Again having all plants tied to each other, interaction between plants would significantly reduce warehouse costs.
Accounts Payable and Receiving
Consolidated billing and invoicing would render duplication of effort a non-factor. With all sites mirroring each other, the separate entities would not have to perform the same function in different formats. All sites are tied to each other using the same system with each site having access to the centralized database. Using this information, customer tracking would be centralized and simplified. A data mart will be used for forecasting and trending.
Government Compliance
Tying all plants through
a shared DBMS will help manage Sarbanes-Oxley, 5500 reporting and other compliance issues. All data is within easy access to the HR and Legal. Riordan will be able to support government queries, and be assured of proper ethics and financial reporting.
SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTION
Implementation will done is a phased approach. Some data transformation may be needed in order to populate the shared DBMS. The high level implementation is as follows:
Preparation
1. Install Ethernet Network at Pontiac, leave current in place.
2. Install NAS boxes at Pontiac and Albany.
3. Back-up all data to NAS.
4. Install new servers at Pontiac, Complete with ERP/MRP and MS Exchange.
5. Bring up new Network at Pontiac.
6. Install new workstations and printers.
Associate and Manger training will take place during the preparation phase.
