Among these diseases, schizophrenia is a common occurrence and it has great harm to patients and their family members. For schizophrenic patients, they will generate delusions and hallucinations, and they will be unconscious so that they cannot control themselves up to behavior disorder and cognitive disorder. Some patients may be also extremely disorganized, and they even do not know what they are talking about because they often talk nonsense.
More than that, schizophrenic patients also suffer great psychosocial challenges. Social discrimination to this kind of mental disease may exist, and social security measure as well as social care for schizophrenic patients is not pretty sound. But so far, therapeutic regimen and nursing interventions are developed a lot, such as antidepressants, psychopharmacological treatment, electroconvulsive therapy, physiological treatment and so on. In this paper, I will introduce the common symptoms in detail as well as the psychosocial challenges that schizophrenic patients suffered. Some nursing interventions will be critically discussed in the paper by giving examples. Now, let us get to know some common symptoms of schizophrenia.
Generally speaking, symptoms of schizophrenia can be classified into two categories that are positive symptoms and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms are mainly embodied in the variation in behavior and thoughts which include delusions, hallucinations, thought disorders and variation of behavior as well as thoughts, and negative symptoms refer to a withdrawal or lack of function that you would expect to see in a healthy person (Brandon K. 2015, p.181-186).
