Racial Disparity: An Examination of the Process that Creates Overrepresentation

I. INTRODUCTION

The United States of America is recognized to be the wealthiest but the most culturally diverse country. However, their expansions and gains in terms of economic phase seem to be not consistently dispersed in the society as the whole portions of American communities have become marginalized which seems insignificant to society at large. One of the essential features of such marginalization is the different or unequal dealing of individuals of color which incrementally happen across the entire spectrum of the US’s justice structure. In addition it also leads to a society which could not trust its institutions to defend the people and treat them fairly could not successfully administer or control crime which the society fears of.
Most of the people who are in the scheme of the justice system are intensely aware of the problem of racial disparity and has been trying to neutralize it while they still can. Racial disparity refers to the discrimination which is seen in the treatment of people of different races. The dissimilarity of the ethnic surroundings of people becomes the major basis for treatment from other people, which leads to imbalanced treatment and discrimination. In the criminal justice system, racial disparity happens when the percentage of the racial/ethnic group (minorities) within the control of the system is more that the proportion of such ethnic groups in the general population.
The unequal treatment of people from different races roots the belief that society is constructed as a hierarchy. In the American hierarchy, the white race is considered the superior race, while the black people are considered the inferior ones. Today, discrimination among races should already be at its minimal.
