Lastbut not least, the writer seems to be too occupied with the correctness of the languageto focus on expressing their original ideas. This leads to an overall impression that thewriting is poorly produced without any new or interesting contents.What bothers Chinese college students most during writing? According to asurvey conducted among 9 colleges and universities in Northern China (ZhangXuemei, 2006), students admit that writing is one of the most difficult parts of Englishlearning. Among the factors that they encounter in writing, 71% of them will facevocabulary inadequacy in the effort of delivering a thought; 47% of them find thattheir vocabulary in use is not appropriate and lacks native-like authenticity.The responses from students are not difficult to explain. Vocabulary is truly animportant part of Foreign Language Writing (FLW). Firstly, lack of new ideas isclosely linked to vocabulary learning problems in that when a thought is vaguelyformed, the only way to capture the thought is through correct and appropriate worduse. Moreover, vocabulary learning is also part of cognitive development and howmuch vocabulary a person knows and knows well often decides how far a languagelearner can go in thinking and writing.
