摘要:English which permeates in all walks of life has played a dominant role in modemsociety. The first goal of learning English is that students can speak fluently, understandEnglish texts completely and have no obstacle in communication and interaction.

Chapter One Introduction


1.1 Research Background
Many educators have attached great importance to studying the transition of Englishteaching of different levels and their research achievements cover a lot of fields.Scholars mainly elaborate the differences of teaching methods,teaching models andteaching objectives between high school English and college English. Yang ILL. & Yang L.(2010) illustrates the teaching reform and current teaching status and put forward sonictransitional strategies. Wei (2009) analyzes the disconnection phenomenon from the point ofteaching materials and students' learning methods. Ning (2006) discusses how to transitEnglish teaching from high school to college through the comparison of teaching syllabusand teaching objectives of the two stages. Zhu Z.Y. (2008) initiates some transitionalimplications through the demonstration of the different requirements of teaching syllabus indifferent stages. Moreover, Luo (2008) focuses on students' own factors such as their learningmotives, lack of satisfaction in English study and participation in class teaching which maylead to the poor transition.But in general, current studies on transition of English teaching from high school tocollege concentrate on teaching methods, teaching models and transition strategies. Manyresearches on the transition of teaching materials are carried out from the aspects of styles,genre, grammar knowledge and the difficulty of excises in passages (Chen L. 2007; ZhengJ.Y. 2008). There remains blank in the transition of vocabulary in teaching materials.

1.2 Significance of the Research

What'smore, it is a dream for students that English become an essential element in our life as their mother tongue and a means of modem communication. The final goal of college Englishteaching is to make English a necessary condition for students integrating into thecompetitive international community.High school English learning is the foundation of the college English learning andcollege English learning is the extension of high school English learning. It is a vital step todesign good teaching materials conforming to the law of language acquisition. Moreover,it isimperative to achieve an effectively transition between the above two stages so that studentscan transit successfully from high school to college and lay a solid foundation for their futurestudy.Speaking and listening are the most basic things in the world, but this kind of languageincludes highly complex processes of language information. Language generation,languageunderstanding, language expression, language usage are closely linked with human cognition.Applied linguist D.A.
