Effect of Jaw Shape on Stresses in Implant-Bone Interface: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis
Objective: The aim of present study was to find out the effect of jaw shape on stresses distribution in implant-bone interface.
Methods: Three-dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) was used in prensent study. Set up six models with different jaw shape. Axial and lateral force were loaded on the models. Compare the stress values and distribution patterns in different models.
Results: Stress values under lateral loads were much higher than that under axial loads. The stress distribution patterns were similar in six models. And there was no evident difference of stress value among the studied models.
Conclusion: lateral occlusal forces should be reduced in clinical implant supporting prostheses. Effect of jaw shape on stresses distribution in implant-bone interface can be ignored. It is rational to simplify the jaw shape in FEA study.
