AbstractNowadays, the competition among companies has become much tougher than ever, and has turned into a competition among supply chains. Thus, how to boost the supply chain efficiency and maximise the benefits supply chain brings to the company has become one of the key points of business success. In order to increase the competitive advantages over rivals, companies often seek ways to build good relationships with their partners. This project mainly investigated the types of relationship companies could build with their suppliers, and how trust could be built in these kinds of relationship. Further, factors influencing trust building were also studied. In the project, theories were critically discussed, analysed and compared with good practices reported in case study. The company used in the case study is Toyota. This is because Toyota has acquired huge achievement in supplier relationship management. Through the case study, good practices on how Toyota builds good supplier relationship and how Toyota creates trust were discovered. The Toyota case study also showed that a cultural difference is one of the factors influencing trust building. Upon the literature review and case study, a new link was created to enrich and update CONSTRUCT© Framework. The new link illustrates that firstly, according to their own circumstances, companies should build different levels of trust with suppliers in different types of relationship. Secondly, companies should consider cultural difference when dealing with supplier relationship and building trust. Therefore, trust can be built in supply chain, and the efficiency of supply chain can be maximized.
