Content based approach        
Content-based instruction combines language instruction with teaching about other subject matters that might be of interest to students (e.g., from a subject in science to their favourite pop star or film). This session examines the advantages of such language embeddedness, and it considers how such a dual focus can be achieved for effective language learning. Students will also have the opportunity to begin to design materials combining content and language learning tasks.

Session 9  Week 10
The analysis of language teaching materials  
This session looks at materials design and evaluation. It examines how methodology and content of materials can be evaluated in terms of their appropriacy to a specific language teaching context. It aims to provide students with the means to carry out a detailed analysis of language materials as a support for the process of materials design itself. Students will also report on class observations of foreign/second language teaching on and off campus.
