;translation teaching in modem society is the combination of translation ideology,translation theory and translation practice. Translation teaching is not only an effectiveform of cultivating translators, but also a process in which a certain translation ideologyis put into practice and gets proved. From another perspective, the goal of translationteaching, teaching methods, curriculum arrangement fully reflect the translationeducators' translation ideology and the society's needs. Translation teaching is carriedout mainly through translation course, as well as one-site practicing (especially forinterpretation teaching).,,(方梦之,2005) The author believes translation teaching forEnglish majors is to cultivate translation ability. This is the same teaching goal both forvocational colleges and universities, but the requirement to students is different.However,the translation teaching process in vocational college is different fromthose in universities. Educators in vocational colleges would feel more difficult due tothe students' weak English background.Sometimes it is just like the old saying that the cleverest housewife can't cook ameal without rice, just as Israelites couldn't make bricks without straw. Students' weakEnglish language basis results in preliminary errors,such as numerous misspellings,grammar errors and so on. Facing those errors,translation teachers need a theory toguide their attitudes and methods to deal with those errors. Error Analysis Theory hasproved to be usefol. English translation teachers apply Error Analysis to analyze andclassify students,written language errors in their translation exercises, and to explorereasons of committing errors, thus to guide their translation teachings.


1.2 Purpose and Significance of the Thesis研究意义和目的
Error analysis is a comprehensive and systematic process to analyze the errorscommitted in the process of foreign language study,so as to explore the nature of theerror and to find the cause of error. If the study is made clearly, many language errorscould be prevented or reduced. The foreign language teaching improvement and theenhancement relies on understanding the learning process. Error analysis theory mayexplain the regularity of errors through analyzing the errors made by the learners in thelanguage study process.Correctly dealing with errors committed in foreign language learning and carefulanalysis of these errors will help to improve the quality of the foreign language teaching.According to Corder's 'The Significance of Learner's Errors,,,the learner's errors areno longer viewed as a failure in the process of learning and the learner's language isbelieved to have their own characteristics besides the characteristics both of the nativelanguage and the target language.In the 1960s and 1970s,Mentalist Linguistics believed that language errors are thenatural phenomenon in language learning process. Furthermore, educators couldimprove the teaching effects through analyzing the learners' language errors. That is tosay, language learners could not grasp the target language by one time study. Theyshould suffer a long and tough internalization before they get to the expected objective —they receive an input signal which is the learning content; they practice, do exercisesand apply the knowledge to real usage; then they send out another signal.
