Conclusion
This study aims to investigate whether teachers have an awareness of lexical chunks andthe current situation of the application of the lexical approach to English teaching especiallywriting teaching. The main research designs include the questionnaire, classroom observationand the analysis of students’ compositions. After analyzing the data collected from the study,major findings are summarized as follows:Firstly, most of the teachers are familiar with the lexical approach and have tried to applythe approach to English teaching. However, many teachers just stay in the average level in theimplementation of this approach. They have not had a deep understanding of the principles ofthe lexical approach. There still exists some deficiency in the application of the lexicalapproach. The problems can be concluded as follows: (1) Many teachers do not have a properunderstanding of the relation between lexis and grammar; (2) Most of the teachers haveignored the importance of students’ self-study of lexical chunks after class; (3) TheObserve-Hypothesis-Experiment model has not been accepted by teachers, and most of theteachers are not familiar with this model which is recommended by the lexical approach; (4)Many teachers haven’t recognized the role that lexical chunks play in dealing with grammarerrors.
