Abstract

The aim of this paper is to understand how all financial statements connect each other, what information is reflected in the statements and judge whether it would be influenced in the future performance or not. Woodside’s annual report in 2010 is used as a principle analyzing material, and several websites and books also used.

Introduction
Woodside is an independent Australian oil and gas company playing a key role in supplying energy to Australia. As second largest energy supplier in Australia, they have been significant growth continuously, and the worldwide fear about atomic energy by the catastrophic earthquake of Japan and announcement of takeover plan by BHP act as their favorable factors, the better growth will be expected. This report consists of five analyses as follows; First, strategy analysis would be done. The purpose of strategy analysis is to identify key profit drivers and business risks, and to assess Woodside’s profit potential at a qualitative level. We are going to explain Woodside’s industrial circumstance by using Michael Porter’s five forces theory and competitive analysis. Second, to evaluate the degree to which an organization’s accounting captures the underlying business reality, accounting analysis would be done. Lastly, their functional currency fluctuation is presented as a red flag which might be the risk signal potentially. Third, to use financial data to evaluate the current and past performance of an organization and to assess its sustainability, we will apply financial analysis. Its analysis consists of three part, financial ratio, analyzing cash flow and we would analyze profitability, investment management and financial management performances as comparing with Santos Ltd.
