nd interpretations of the word culture.
Geertz defines culture as a “historically transmitted semiotic network constructed by humans and which allows them to develop, communicate and perpetuate their knowledge, beliefs and attitudes about the world” (Geertz, 1973: 89).
A classic definition was put forward in 1920 by Edward Tylor. According to his view(Tylor, 1920), culture is a compound, which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, customs and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society(Lusting and Koester, 1999).
In my opinion, https://www.51lunwen.orgevery culture has its own world view, its own way of thinking of activity, time, and human nature, its own way of perceiving, and its own system of social organization.
2.2 Interpretation
Comparatively speaking, the history of interpretation is much longer than that of translation. The history of interpretation as a professional career in our country is more than two thousand years (Zhao Junfeng, 2003: 5).
As we have mentioned above that interpretation is one kind of language communication process with transforming one language form to another through oral expression, one of the primary communication manners among the exchanges between different nations with dissimilar cultures.
The Chinese interpreter expert, Professor Mei Deming believes that the features of interpretation can be reduced to the following five points: extemporaneousness, stressfulness, independence, comprehensiveness and miscellaneous ness (2000: 7).
On the criteria of interpretation different people have different opinions. Professor Zhong Shukong stresses that interpretation should be “a good unity of accuracy and fluency”. Mei Deming believes that two basic criteria for judging the quality of interpretation should be “accuracy and fluency”. Mr. Li Yueran puts forward that the criteria of interpretation should be “accurate, smooth and fast”.
2.3 The relationship between culture and interpretation
“Interpretation is representation in one language of what is written or said in another language. It is a bilingual art because two different languages are involved in this activity” (Cheng Zhaowei, 2006: 84). As language and culture are closely connected and understanding one requires understanding the other, interpretation has to be regarded as an intercultural activity as well. After all, the interpreter must analyze the SL within certain cultural contexts carefully so as to use appropriate words in appropriate order to represent in the target culture the object or process the original writer describes.
Interpretation has been instrumental in transmitting culture, even since countries and language have been in contact with each other. Indeed, interpretation is a very important medium for cultural exchange between people using different languages. In brief, perhaps we can use the analogy employed by the famous British scholar Susan Bassnett-McGuire to illustrate the relationship of culture and the interpreter:
In the same way that the surgeon, operating on the heart, cannot neglect the body that surrounds it, so the interpreter treats the text in isolation from the culture at his peril.
3.0 Cross-cultural differences in business interpretation
Samovar and Porter(1994: 48)define culture as “the deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, rules, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and mat论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
