n different types of declarative memory are involved in interpreting, particularly the semantic memory and the episodic memory. The author hopes to understand the role of declarative memory in deciding the influence of information density on interpreting outcome, while hoping to shed light on interpreter education and training as well as contribute to interpreting study and research through this experiment.

Conclusion
The final results of this experiment indicates that the increase of information density may not necessarily cause the decline of interpreting performance, it is also influenced by the type of declarative memory involved. When interpreters use episodic memory in interpreting, the relation between information density and interpreting performance is less relevant, the increase of information density may not lead to the fall of performance, it can cause the improve of performance instead. When interpreters use semantic memory interpreting, on the other hand, interpreting performance tends to decline with the rise of information density. However, in both cases, repeated information facilitates and promotes interpreting performance improvement despite of theincrease of information density. The findings of this experiment clarifies the relation between information density and interpreting performance, and overturned the previous assumption that performance must decline with ascendinginformation density. It supports the idea that interpreting performance is affected by multiple factors, and in his case, is affectedb both information density and memory type. A comparison of the ten subjects’ performances in the first and second category indicates that the increase of information density produces less negative impact on interpreting performance when episodic memory is involved and more when semantic memory is involved, and that language input is a significant element in affecting memory extraction and processing, thus influencing the interpreting performance. Experiment results show that in both categories, Chinese information input increases bring less negative on interpreting performances than English input. A reasonable explanation is that non-mother tongue input demands more effort allocation on listening comprehension and note-taking, as suggested &nbs
