1. Introduction
As for the different functions assumed by architecture, the commemorative function is often neglected by people. Sure, the chief function of buildings is to provide shelter as well as the aesthetic significance for the human race, however, the creation of architecture as a means to commemorate the specific culture of a nation is of the same importance . For people in different culture, they may have the same issues in architecture (such as the pragmatism of buildings as a shelter and the accessibility of building materials), however, they have different ways in dealing with 澳大力亚留学生论文代写these problems. This feature can be best explained by reflecting the differences in the commemorative function of different cultures and traditions in China and the western world. This essay, based on a comparative study of the commemorative function of China’s traditional architecture and that of the Australian modern architecture (which is largely influenced by the post-modernism), analyzed how architecture assumes the function of memorizing the cultural tradition of a country throughout history as well as the influence by the national characteristics. The chief purpose of this cultural comparison will help readers of this essay to understand the complicated cultural and traditional impacts on the styles of architecture in different nations and in different historical eras. The comparison will be conducted in two areas, namely the function to inherit national tradition and to memorize philosophical meditation of a nation.
