摘要:英语写作,英语教学的必要组成部分,被证实扮演着越来越重要的作用,在提高学生的英语水平。写作是一个主动技能书,和学生的英语水平和了解各方面的综合反映。培养学生的英语写作能力是英语教学在中国的一项重要任务。

Some problems have been found frequently in the attitude of students. In Englishteaching, writing has been put in a secondary place. And college students haven'trealized the importance of learning English writing. From the perspective of motivation,they are not interested in English writing. And from the perspective of aims, moststudents are just forced to practice writing. They think the only one aim of it is to passthe final examination or the CET (college English Tests) tests. Besides, some studentsjust have misunderstandings about writing while they face it with positive attitude. Forexample, some of them think that it is a meaningful way to improve their writing byusing senior words. That is to say, the more difficult the better. And the others think thatthe best way to avoid mistakes is to use only simple words and expressions. And in aword, both the two parties do not focus on the content of the articles they composed andrelevant skills.And there are also problems in the teaching methodology of the teachers. Resultteaching methodology is the most common one in today's writing teaching. It refers tothe course that students compose their articles under the arrangement of teachers.Teachers' responsibility is only to comment on the articles and point out mistakes ingrammar and spelling, on the basis of which sign marks. Students' ability to makecomments on the articles themselves has been totally ignored. And negative commentson the articles students composed reduce the creativities of students. In this way,teachers give no guidance on the content of the articles and relevant skills. So studentsonly know what is wrong while do not know what is right. In this way they only knowthe perspective from which to improve their writing, but do not know how to do that. Sostudents stay on the same stage in writing. The limitation in their way of thinking,which is caused by the dependence on their teachers, leads to their loss of initiative andplace to perform freely.And the weakness in language foundation is also an important obstacle, whichstays in the way of improving English writing. In the course of composing, students justforget the exact word they need. Under the help of an English dictionary, studentstranslate the Chinese sentence formed in their mind to an English sentence. In theirarticles, sentences that do not fit into English grammar can be found everywhere in theirarticles. Mistakes in grammar are very common things in college students' writing; evenmistakes in spelling can be found. And sentences which are terrible in grammar can befound everywhere. All the above are caused by their weakness in English foundation.


1.3 Thesis Structure论文结构
The thesis is composed of six chapters. Chapter One introduces the background,structure and significance, and overview of the thesis. Chapter Two reviews relatedstudies on English writing teaching, and literature concerning core terms and thetheoretical background of the thesis: cognitive linguistics, categorization, prototype,prototype categorization, basic level category, cognitive reference point and Gestaltperception, covering the definition, the role, and different aspects of categorization; andpoints out the emphasis and methodology of the thesis. Chapter Three describes thecharacteristics of relevant linguistic items used in this thesis and make comments onthem.
