Information Visualization and Virtual Reality
University of Salford

1 Preamble
1.1 Learning Package Information
This module requires learners to participate in three core areas of activity留学生论文代写 – see Figure 1.1

2 VISUALISATION AND VIRTUAL REALITY
2.1 INTRODUCTION
Visualization can encompass a variety of topics ranging from information visualization to scientificvisualisation, virtual reality, multi-media, etc. In this sub-module, the issues relating to visualization will be grouped under three sections. Firstly, Information Visualization will be covered in its most general form, including definitions of Information Visualization and introduction of some popular or famous techniques that have been adopted by other industries and fields of science. Students are not required to become intimately aware of the details behind these techniques the intention is to make construction professions aware of this relatively new field of science which is gaining importance on a daily basis.

This is considered important because this area of science has become rich in tools and techniques within a wider multidisciplinary scope. This is particularly due to the advents of the Internet in conjunction with the highly abstract nature of Information and Knowledge and numerous areas ofapplication.

The second part of the sub-module will address general issues pertaining virtual reality, before, homing on VR applications in construction industry. To this end, number of case study projects will be introduced which will demonstrate the potential benefits of VR within construction industry, as well as providing links to other sub-modules of the Technology module.

In the final part of the sub-module the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) will be introduced in order to build student’s confidence by understanding the inner-working of a highly sophisticatedmodelling language. Subsequently, the extent of coverage will be limited to the basics of VRML.

The combination of these sections will help students to develop the basic competence and knowledge with which students will be able to engage in advanced research and embark upon developing sophisticated application involving visualization and virtual reality.

3 INFORMATION VISUALISATIONHuman vision and domain expertise are powerful tools that (together with computational tools) make it possible to turn large heterogeneous data volumes into information (interpreted data) and, subsequently, into knowledge (understanding derived from integrating information). The hallmark of good science is the discovery of lawshttps://www.51lunwen.org/liuxuelunwendx/ which unify and simplify disparate findings and allow predictions of yet-unobserved events or phenomena. Mendeleev's periodic table, for example, allowed him to predict the physical and chemical characteristics of Gallium (Gab) and Germanium (Gee) before they were discovered decades later. Mendeleev's table, however, arranged the elements only by a serial number, denoting an atom's position in a list arranged by increasing atomic mass.

This changed in 1913-14 when Henry Moseley investigated the characteristic frequencies of X-rays produced by bombarding each of the elements in turn by high energy electrons. He discovered, that if the serial numbers of the elements were plotted against the square root of frequencies in the X-ray spectra emitted by these elements, all the points neatly fell 论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
