In our daily communication, euphemism refers to mild or vagueperiphrastic expressions as a substitution for something embarrassing or unpleasant tomake it more acceptable than it really is. Different scholars and linguists definedeuphemism from different angles both at home and abroad.Nowadays, with the progress of society and development of human civilization,all kinds of euphemistic expressions have penetrated into politics，economy, militaryaffairs，education, daily life and other fields of activities and become a window toBritish and American cultures. Euphemism is not only a kind of linguisticphenomenon，but also a cultural phenomenon and social phenomenon. It not onlystrongly reflects cultural and social values, but also deeply penatrates into our sociallife. Every society, every speech community, even every social class has theirdifferent kinds of euphemisms. Just as Enright stated "A language withouteuphemisms would be a defective instrument of communication (1985:29)."HughRawson also pointed out "Euphemisms are embedded so deeply in our language thatfew of us，even those who pride themselves on being plain-spoken, ever get through aday without using them. "(1981:73) Especial in the modem world，the interpersonaland international communication without euphemisms is inconceivable.In order to systematically and folly account for this kind of languagephenomenon, many linguists and scholars have studied the linguistic phenomenonfrom different research areas, such as; social linguistics，semantics, cross-culture,pragmatics, cognitive linguistics and so on. Even though the euphemism researcheshave rich achievements, the research on the branches of euphemism is almost ofvacancy.With the rapid advancement of science and technology，euphemisms have beenrelated to more and more aspects of the human life. In the peace society, peopleincreasingly pursue the language civilization and pay more attention on their socialimages. Therefore, new euphemisms appear one by one.
