The authorintends to apply this theory in the study of interpreting of culture-loaded expressionsin political talks, enriching its application in interpreting studies and discovering itsunique functions in guiding interpreting process. Hopefully this thesis will bring moreacademic achievements regarding to this theory.

1.3 Research Questions

Through this research, as well as based on the theoretical framework in theprevious chapters, the author attempts to figure out the answers to the followingquestions, which are all closely related to the key subjects in the interpreting ofculture-loaded expressions in interpreting of political talks.Number 1: In the selected materials, what kinds of culture-loaded expressions areinvolved and how to categorize them according to their specific characteristics?Number 2: What are the common coping strategies of different kinds ofculture-loaded expressions?Number 3: According to Skopos Theory, how are the three main rules applied inthe interpreting of culture-loaded expressions in the selected materials?

1.4 The Implementation of the Research

In this case study, the author will conduct a research based on the interpretingmaterials in recent years‘ interpreting of political talks: such as press conferences inthe NPC and CPPCC sessions in 2012 and 2013, the addresses given by President XiJingping, etc. In selecting the materials, the author takes the following aspects intoconsideration: Firstly, the occasions must be closely related to political affairs. Forexample, the speeches given by our national leaders. Secondly, the political talksexpressions. And in the end, the author intends to make a conclusion about thisresearch and make some comment about the achievements and give some suggestionsfor further studies.

1.5 An Overview of the Thesis

This thesis mainly consists of the following five chapters: The first chapterserves as a general introduction of this thesis, including the research background, theresearch purpose and the outline of this thesis. In the second chapter, a literaturereview is made on the previous researches on interpreting of political talks,culture-loaded expressions, Skopos Theory and its application in different fields oflinguistics. Chapter three mainly deals with the theoretical framework of this thesisincluding the definition and categories of culture-loaded expressions and therelationship between language and culture. After that, a detailed analysis about thedevelopment and definition of Skopos Theory will be given. The three rules in SkoposTheory will also be illustrated in this part. Chapter four serve as the case study part. Inthis part, several speeches and press conferences are selected as the research materials.Two groups are divided. In the first group, literal interpreting has been adopted ininterpreting the culture-loaded expressions, while the second group mainly consists ofthose examples about other interpreting strategies. What‘s more, discussion about theapplication of the three basic rules in Skopos Theory will also be carried out.
