In this chapter, the background of this study wi ll be introduced at firs t. It contains the importance and the current situation of profe ssional development of middle school excellent English teachers as well as the purpose of this study. After that, the significance of this study will be e laborated from three asp ects. Finally, the overv iew of the whole pape r will be presented.
1.1 Research Background
Excellent English teachers devote themselves to teaching. They try th eir best to teach students knowledge as well as th e truths in life. Teachers are compared to candles that burn themselves but lighten others. Nevertheless, teachers seldom pay attention to th eir own professional development, especially the Eng lish teachers in rural areas. However , excellent English teachers’ sustainable professional develo pment is beneficial to the developm ent of current education, such as accelerating educational reform, improving the quality of education as well as cultivating high quality students. Therefore, Chinese educational leaders recognize the importance of excellent English teachers’ sustainable professional development. Some Chinese national leaders held that the reason why excellent teachers are so important is that excellent teachers undertake the job of shaping human beings, including their soul and life. It is a lucky thing in life for a student to meet a good teacher. It is a glory for a school to own excellent teaching staffs, and it is the hope o f a nation to cultivate batches of good teachers continuously. He also said that ex cellent teachers have the responsibilities of spreading knowledge, ideas and truths. Therefore, excellent teachers should get the respect of the whole society.

1.2 Research Significance
With an attempt of providing som e suggestions on excellent Eng lish teachers’ further development, putting the facilitating factors into use, and transforming the obstructing factors into facilitating factors, it is of great importance to probe into the influencing factors of professional development of middle school excellent English teachers. The following content is an elaboration of the significance of present study from both theory and practice. At the theo retical level, the inve stigation of the influencing fact ors of m iddle school excellent English teachers’ professional development will enrich the r elevant theories on two aspects. The first one is about the research s ubject. This study aim s to gain a profound understanding of the excellent teachers’ process of prof essional development and the facilitators or impediments in this process. Among the previous studies, most of the research subjects are ordinary E nglish teachers, while the excellen t middle school English teachers have been ignored.
