Case Study Question

JetBlue Airways: Challenges Ahead.

This assessment contributes 50% of your final grade for this module and you are required to analyse the case study on JetBlue.  There are 2 elements in the assignment which will be combined to give you an overall grade for assessment 1:

a) A group presentation (40% of assessment 1 grade)
b) An individual written case analysis (60% of assessment 1 grade)

David Neeleman, the Chair of the Board of Directors, started this young airline in 2000.  Based on years of airline experience he wanted to provide customers with a unique offering of superior service at low fares.  However, in the last decade the competitive challenges have made it difficult to sustain profitable performance.  The young airline is now at a crossroads and needs to develop a strategy to promote growth and secure profitable performance.  In this assessment you are asked to analyse the company’s strategic position and recommend how it should develop its future strategy.

Assessment Question:

Conduct a strategic analysis of JetBlue Airways and indicate what this means for the future strategy of the company.

Guidelines for the Group Presentation

The Group Presentation accounts for 40% of your coursework grade.

As you will see from the tutorial programme, time is allocated for group preparation (week 5) and giving the presentation (week 6).  However, it will be necessary to call additional group meetings and you will be required to carry out independent study before attending group meetings.

Presentations will be 20 minutes and assessed according to its organisation and structure, the quality of the delivery, the analytical content, the quality of the arguments, and how questions are handled by the group. The assessment criteria are attached in appendix 1.

There will be c.5 members in each group and it is essential that all members of the Group attend group meetings and participate actively in the Group’s presentation. Note the following requirements:

1. Every member of the Group must participate in the Presentation.
2. Every Group member must complete the attached Activity Log to be handed to the tutor at the start of the Presentation.

If you do not attend group meetings or participate in the presentation and adhere to these requirements this may result in a fail grade for the coursework assessment.
 
Presentations must use PowerPoint slides.  It is compulsory that you give the tutor a copy of your slides before the presentation commences.

A copy of the Activity Log is attached in appendix 2 and copies placed on webCT.
