摘要:At present, there exist many problems with complicated situation in oral Englishteaching. The study based on Howard Gardner's MI theory, through an empirical study,analyzing existing problems of oral English learning.

6.1 Teachers' attitude towards teaching
Campbell notes that MI theory is not prescriptive. Rather, it gives teachers acomplex mental model from which to construct curriculum and improve themselves aseducators. In this view, teachers are expected to understand, master, and be committedto the MI model. Teachers are encouraged to administer an MI inventory on them andthereby be able to connect the life's experiences to concept of Multiple Intelligences.Teachers then become curriculum developers, lesson designers and analysts, activityfinders or inventors, and most critically orchestrates of a rich array of multisensory"activities within the realistic constraints of time, space, and resources of the classroom.Teachers are encouraged not to think of themselves merely as language teachers. Theyhave a role that is not only to improve the second language abilities of their students butto become major contributors to the overall development of students' intelligences.In the traditional classroom, teacher is the main role during the teaching procedures,while students are faithful audience. However, under MI theory-based oral Englishteaching, teacher is just an organizer, while students play active role during the teachingprocess.After applying MI theory to oral English teaching, teachers found teaching moreinteresting and effective, though they have to spend much time and engage in designingteaching procedures.Before class, teachers design teaching procedures carefully according to textbook,which can satisfy the more students the better.

Conclusion


The MI theory- based oral English teaching attach importance to cultivate anddevelop students' intelligence, thus improving speaking ability. From the experiment,the hypothesis has been testified, which are,a) MI theory indeed is a positive andeffective theory to oral English teaching, b) There is a connection between one'sintelligences and speaking ability, c) By developing students' multiple intelligences,their speaking ability can be improved. The experiment results show that MI Theory isan effective theory to guide oral English teaching.The MI theory- based oral English teaching follows the principles of cultivatingstudents' ability, which requires that the teaching procedures should be creative andwell-designed. During the teaching, not only can students consolidate Englishfoundation,but also perfect their comprehensive quality during the abundant andflexible practices.MI theory has some requirements toward teaching: teaching design should bebased on students rather than teachers; teaching contents should take students'intelligence development into account; teaching methods should be various and up todate.
