2.2 Kumaravadevelu’s Postmethod Pedagogy Professor
B.Kumaravadivelu, teaching at Department of Linguistics and Language Development, San Jose State University, California, is world-renowned contemporary expert in second language teaching area, one of the most important representatives in language teaching postmethod pedagogy. His research in the field of second language teaching, culture teaching and teacher education and other fields, has achieved unique success. Professor Kumaradivelu not only set foot in a broad field of study, but put forward research points clear and sharp, which makes his works highly instructive for the development of second language teaching in the context of globalization. Professor Kumaravadivelu was born in a small town, the southern Indian state of Tamilnadu. Though his family was not well off, his father’s vision and Kumaravadivelu’s own efforts made him become the only highly educated man in his clan. He studied at the University of Madras, India, majoring in British literature, and getting both bachelor and master degree of arts. During his teaching in local Indian universities, he obtained the British Council scholarship, then headed for a master's degree in Applied Linguistics in University of Lancaster, the United Kingdom, and later on eventually received his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, United States of America.
