5.1 Data Analysis

The author used Statistic Package for Social Science (SPSS17.0) to analyze the collected data whichwere from pretest, post-test and questionnaires. In order to compare the pretest results, test scores wereinput into SPSS17.0. Results are shown in table 5-1 and table 5-2.The chart shows that the average scores of English vocabulary test in experimental class and controlclass have no great difference. In order to further verify whether there was a significant differencebetween vocabulary mastering degree of experimental class and that of control class , the author hascarried out the Independent Samples Test.According to table 5-2, P value(sig.) which is used to examine the observed value of Fstatistics(0.423) is 0.517. The P value is above 0.10. Therefore, the variance is homogeneous. And Sig.(2-tailed) of P value is 0.324. P value is greater than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore, it did notreach statistical significance level. In other words, there is no significant difference between vocabularytest scores of experimental class and that of control class. Therefore, using these two classes as theresearch objects is reasonable.

Conclusion

This study uses empirical research methods to study the English vocabulary acquisition ofNon-English majors under traditional teaching mode and multimodal vocabulary teaching mode.Through the statistical and analysis of the test data, the results show that multimodal vocabulary teachingmode has a good effect on vocabulary acquisition. Students’ test results and teaching modes haveobvious relevance. The effectiveness of multimodal teaching mode on vocabulary acquisition is betterthan that of traditional vocabulary teaching mode. Combination of a variety of non-linguistic signs andlinguistic signs not only can inspire the subjects’ interests and attract their attention, but also effectivelyhelp the learners to understand and remember the meaning and usage of words, reduce the memoryburden and enhance the memory effect.
