ASB4401/ASB4501 - RESEARCH METHODS
Assignment One
Deadline of the assignment is the 24th November 2006.
The following information concerns the preparation of your first assignment for the MA\MSc & MBA course. The aim is to produce a paper (informative and formal) by analysing the data provided using the statistic knowledge acquired so far in the Research Method Course.
For the first assignment, you are invited to explore the following research question:
“Does the topology of the banking structure of the EU countries differ after the introduction of the Euro?”
I am briefly outlining below the basic requirements for the preparation of the report. For the rest I expect you to use your imagination and initiative to produce a high standard and quality report.
1) You are expected to undertake/write the research work necessary for the assignment on your own. Please read carefully “postgraduate Student Handbook” especially page 28 and 29 and text below:

2) You have to use the data set for banking firms (“eu15.xls”) available in the N drive/Blackboard. The data relates to various characteristics of the individual banks.
3) You are free to use any of the variables provided as long as your analysis is meaningful and tackles the research question. Please note that you should use the statistics you believe more appropriate for best describing the data set.
4) The length of the report including graphics and tables must not exceed 8 pages.
5) Needless to say that the report findings should be substantiated and explained with the appropriate published literature.
6) Please do not include raw data at the end of the paper since this would only waste paper. However, you should forward to me, by e-mail, the data you have selected from the original data set to prepare your assignment.
7) The student must forward the word file to me prior to submission of the hard copy.
8) The submission date for the first assignment is 24th November 2006.
