In order to analyse this new trend within Chinese contemporary social culture, this dissertation concerns itself with Chinese themed culture. It not only describes the variety of themed environments in Chinese society, but also explores the reasons for their emergence and increasing presence. Chapter 1 analyzes the role of themes in contemporary Chinese social processes, trying to explain why motifs are more common in Chinese society today. This chapter discusses the reasons why Chinese society entered into the trends of theming, on both political and economic levels. This chapter also seeks to analyze the role of media and advertising in the processes that Chinese society goes through in this new mode of themed environments. Lastly, Chapter 1 seeks to explain how much impact the force of globalization has brought to the shape of contemporary Chinese themed environments as well. Chapter 2 examines more closely many kinds of themed environments found in Chinese everyday life, selecting themed restaurants and theme parks as examples and connecting the development of these environments to dynamics of the Chinese economy today. This chapter also describes the developmental process of Chinese themed environments, seeking to explain the distinctions between Chinese and Western themed environments, and also analyzing the value of Chinese traditional cult英语论文网 【http://www.51lunwen.org】ure within the modern Chinese thematic motifs produced.
To sum up, this dissertation seeks to analyze the forces of globalization and media upon the forms and developments of contemporary Chinese themed environments, while also detaling the characteristics that these contemporary Chinese themed environments produce.
