red in previouscollocational studies. Even though related studies focus on the analysis of somecollocational frameworks, it is far from being fully explored. Phrase frame is anoriginal concept developed by William H. Fletcher, which produce after extractingform a window program easily and coming out with many phrases below it. Instead ofshowing individual word combinations one by one, phrase frames present users withall of the arisen phrases in the certain corpus below the frames and the frequency of itsoccurrence. It is obvious in the real and authentic corpus that not only well-known idioms andconventional chunks are popular among native speakers, but some discontinuousphrases are also widely used. However, little attention has been paid to them, so doesthe teaching of these frequently occurring phrase frames to EFL students. Since thatthe acquisition of a language includes the learning of authentic and realistic use of thenative speakers, corpus is the appropriate channel to guarantee this need. Althoughthere have been some studies in the literature dealing with the incorporation of corpusand corpus tools into English teaching, they are mainly on lexical studies, with littleattention to phrase frames. By ways of the easily operated and user-friendly program, phrase frames extracted from native corpus are of great significance for EFL studentsto know more native language features. The mastery of phrases are integrated into thephrase frames instead of separated ones. This paper identifies the most frequent phraseframes used in native speakers’ English corpora, e.g., CLOB, Crown, then builds acorpus of college English textbooks to track their occurrences and frequency. Finally, itexplores the possibility of the enhanced treatment of such phrase frames in thetextbooks.

Chapter 2Literature Review
As has been mentioned before, the lexical patterns and collocation have been inthe central place in the field of corpus linguistics since the development of thisdiscipline. Researchers are inspired by Firth who has proposed that “You shall know aword by the company it keeps” (Firth, 1957, p.179) and Sinclair who was known forthe idiom principle which states the idiomatic essence of language and the mutuallydependent relation between lexis and grammar. From then on, the “prepatterned”nature put forward by Eeg-Olofsson had received wide attention and strong interestfrom the linguists. With the status of phraseology increasing day by day, a greatnumber of scholars, Nattinger and DeCarrico (1992), Lewis (2000), Kennedy (2000),claimed the necessity to bring the phraseology into the teaching syllabus. Thetraditional syllabus takes the grammar rules as its frame, therefore, results indismantling the language as separated parts. Until now, there exist numerousresearches on phrase teaching, with the following research subjects as whyphraseology should be located in the central place in language teaching, what kind ofphrases should be taught and how to teach them and so on. Phraseology contains notonly the studies of continuous word sequences but also discontinuous ones; however, the latter is under-researched. This chapter firstly provides a brief review of the field ofphraseology to help better understand the research background. The review of thephrase frame, which is of great importance but has not attracted many researchers, illustrates the background of the research topic. Then this chapter expounds briefly
