摘要:The hypothesis of the study is that the objective needs organized by course designer of Occupational English course are not in line with subjective needs ofstudents.

Chapter one Introduction


1.1 Background of the study
The employers set an even higher demand on the employees’ practical ability to use the language. According to this social-orientation, theconventional teaching mode of general English in the most of higher vocational Education colleges does not meet social needs or learners’ practical needs. English course should not only help students lay a foundation of language knowledge but also focus on cultivate the ability of using language. English language teaching is mainly included English for General Purposes (EGP) teaching and English for Special Purposes(ESP) teaching. The former puts emphasis on cultivate students’ language ability, while the latter stresses on foster students’ vocational communicative ability. Therefore, inorder to raise the efficiency of the general English teaching, it is necessary to introduce ESP teaching mode into the general English teaching. ESP is a kind of practical English teaching mode which takes improving the learners’ vocational communicative English ability as the principle, takes the learners as the center, and takes vocational-orientation as the basis. In future, English learning is no longer merely English studying, but it will become more and more combined with some field of professional knowledge or some subject together. ESP teaching will become a mainstream of English teaching in near future. Nowadays, ESP teaching mode has already applied to College English teaching widely. However, it is still in an embryonic stage in the general English teaching of higher vocational education. General English asan important compulsory subject should take students’ learning needs and employers’ manpower needs into consideration in order to satisfy different demands from different majors.
1.1研究的背景
雇主对员工的实际运用语言的能力,设置了更高的要求。根据这种社会取向,合同签约顾问,一般英语教学模式,最重要的高等职业教育学院,不符合社会需求或学习者的实际需求。英语课程不仅要帮助学生奠定了基础语言知识的同时也注重培养使用语言的能力。英语教学主要包括一般用途英语(EGP)的教学和特殊用途英语(ESP)教学。前者着重培养学生的语言能力,而后者则强调培养学生的职业交际能力。因此,为了提高英语教学效率的一般,有必要到一般的英语教学引入ESP教学模式。 ESP是一种实用的英语教学模式,以提高学习者的职业英语交际能力为原则,以学习者为中心,以职业为基础的方向。未来,英语学习不再仅仅是英语学习,但它会变得越来越多结合一些领域的专业知识或某些学科一起。 ESP教学英语教学在不久的将来将成为主流。如今,ESP教学模式已经对大学英语教学的广泛应用。然而,这是在一般高等职业教育英语教学仍处于萌芽阶段。一般英牙山重要的必修科目,应该考虑学生的学习需求和雇主的人力需求,以满足来自不同专业的不同需求。


1.2 Significance of the study
To promote the quality of higher vocational education development, ForeignLanguage Teaching and Research Press cooperated with some higher vocational education colleges, published a series of English teaching materials related to career.These textbooks take serving the society as the final aim, held job hunting as orientation,stick to the guiding of the material dialectics, face the influence of market mechanismon the development of higher education, and explore the innovation of developmentmode of high vocational education in the social transition stage. Occupational English,as a stem basic course, takes career English as center contents, is covering the typicalEnglish communicative scenes of varied foreign business activities. It lays a foundationfor further English learning. Occupational English aims at cultivating students’ basicEnglish language skills and English communicative ability. This textbook is divided intotwo volumes, every volume included 8 units, covering participants, organizations,products, service and related with main contents which occur in the foreign businessactivities.
