Chapter I Introduction

1.1 The impact of first language (mother tongue) on second language acquisition
The process and results of second language acquisition subject to many factors, the role of mother tongue has always been one of the most important in this area. The researches which based on the similar or contrary relations between first language (hereinafter short for L1) and second language 留学生教育论文代写(hereinafter referred to as L2) acquisition emerge increasingly, it is also a controversial issue in the field of linguistics. Affected by the impact of learning theory of behaviorism, many scholars persist in thinking of that the expressing habit and the thinking of L1 is a great impediment in L2 acquisition, they figure that the process of L2 acquisition is also the process to gradually overcome the interference of L1 to develop the way of expression and thinking of L2. But most researchers agree that the impact of L1 on L2 acquisition is positive. McLaughlin and Taylor believe that the use of L1 is a very common psychological process, namely, the use of prior knowledge to learn new knowledge. L2 acquisition takes L1 contextual language as a starting point to learn a new language, therefore improving the performance of L2. Richards et al (2002) points out that contextual knowledge includes pragmatic rules and world knowledge (ie the general cultural knowledge, etc.), contextual knowledge can be a linguistic and contextual knowledge it may be on the content of language around a word, a phrase, and even longer words or discourse, it can also be non-linguistic and contextual knowledge, namely, the social, cultural and physical environment of using a languages. In this study, it mainly researches the contextual knowledge of L1, including vocabulary, grammar, writing knowledge and so on in L1. Since L2 learners need to resort to L1 contextual language to improve the performance of L2, then this study will explore which links L2would resort to L1 contextual language to achieve the purposes of improving performance. Taking into account that grammar and vocabulary are most important basic skills in language learning, this article will through empirical research to explore whether L2 learners resort to vocabulary and grammar in L1 contextual language to improve performance.
