e compositions, there are some nonexistent new words in English, such as, ammoniating, annular and quadrate. These nonexistent new words haven’t certain meanings even though in the context. Word-formation errors generally possess distinctive features, so the case that many learners make the same errors is rare. Taking the word-formation errors in the compositions for example: newspaper > news paper, north campus > northern school area, everlasting > long-lasting (2 times), Empire State Building > empire-building, the School of Foreign Studies > Foreign School of Studies (2 times), undeveloped > underdeveloped, deep-rooted > taking-grouted, six-story> six-storied, garden of cherry blossom > garden of cherry, etc.. 2.1.3 Capitalization Errors Generally speaking, capitalization errors link with punctuation marks. The first letter of each sentence in English should be capitalized. The letter after a comma should be a small letter. Besides, the proper name must be capitalized. Here are some capitalization errors that occur in students’ compositions. At that moment, ‘Honesty’ means ‘losing all of the property’. (5) Honesty is like a mirror: What you show to it and what you gain from it. (6) The Industry revolution liberated women from home… (7) Among Students’ Flats and the Sports field locates the School of Foreign Language Studies of HNUST. (8) …especially in china honesty is regarded as the most admired virtue… (9)…you can go to the no.201 and 202 rooms… (10) Every laboratory has teacher’s computer and student’s computer, language digital terminal, video frequency systems, Network switchboard and so on. 2.2 Collocation Errors and the Relevant Statistics According to the definition of collocation stated by Benson et al. (1986), collocation is mainly divided into two types: one is grammatical collocation, which refers to the collocation between content words(verb, noun, adjective) and prepositions, such as, fight against, in a sense, be filled with, make a deal, etc.; the other is lexical collocation. Lexical collocation is a composite unite which permits the substitutability of items for at least one of its constituent elements. 2.2.1 Grammatical Collocation Errors Grammatical collocation errors mainly result from learners’ incompleteness or confused by so many different collocation rules. The following table is about the error statistics of the collocation between verbs and prepositions, nouns and prepositions, adjectives and prepositions. Table 2 Grammatical Collocation Errors Type Frequency Percentage (%) verb/preposition 27 60% noun/preposition 17 37.78% adjective /preposition 1 2.22% 2.2.2 Lexical Collocation Errors According to the restricted conditions of lexical collocation, it can be classified as free collocation and fixed collocation. Free collocation means each element of the phrase can be substituted by other items at random. Most of learners’ lexical errors in compositions belong to the free collocation. This kind of errors mainly comes from the transition from Chinese to English. On the contrary, in the fixed collocation phrase, no words can be changed. If any item was changed, the meaning of the whole phrase would totally change. For example, “to kick the bucket” means“to the death”, though the literal sense is “踢木桶”. The words, such as, pail, drum are the synonyms of bucket, but neither of them can substitute bucket in this phrase. The fixed co论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
