摘要:The reality in practical writing classes in higher vocational collegesis not satisfying,though writing is very important for English learning.The development of teaching practical writing is restricted by someproblems, which negatively affect the improvement of students' ability.

Introduction


0.1 Background of the Study
Along with the development of higher education and China'sentrance into WTO, the ability of language expression is increasinglyrequired. As the most popular language spoken by most people,Englishlearning has been attached great importance in nowadays.As one of the four basic skills in language learning, writing is aproductive activity and comprehensive reflection of student ability. Andthere is no doubt that writing occupies a vital position in languageteaching. It is believed that the ability of writing reflects students' Englishintegrated ability. The four basic skills are inter-related to each other.Therefore, writing can also promote the skills of listening, speaking andreading.It is widely accepted that the ability of practical writing is a must inmodern society. According to the statistics, there is no economicallydeveloped country that does not pay attention to the cultivation of collegestudents' practical writing ability. For instance, 123 majors have set upthe courses related to practical writing knowledge and skills in the UnitedStates.

0.2 Significance of the Study
According to "Basic requirements for English teaching of highervocational education", the requirements of PRETCO(Practical EnglishTest For Colleges) for vocational college students is to write 80 to 100words on a brief practical writing in English in 30 minutes, such ascompleting message, memo, resume, notices and letters, etc. It requiresusing basically right words and appropriate format, without making majorgrammatical errors. Therefore, learning and mastering English practicalwriting for the vocational student has an important significance in reality.The reality in practical writing classes in higher vocational collegesis not satisfying,though writing is very important for English learning.The development of teaching practical writing is restricted by someproblems, which negatively affect the improvement of students' ability.Constructivism is a theory to explain how knowledge is constructedin the human being when information comes into contact with existingknowledge that has been developed by experiences. Constructivismadvocates that students are the principle part in learning, while teachersplay the role of guide. It attaches great importance to students'self-exploration, self-discovery, and self-construction of knowledge.Learning should be based on existing experience, so teaching should leadlearners to construct a subjective understanding. Classroom teaching fromthe constmctivist perspective can effectively change the traditionalteacher-centered teaching model, and help to set up a teaching modelwhich lays emphasis on student-centeredness, on acquiring directexperience, on solving problems, and on cultivating students' initiativesand practical abilities.
