摘要:The Significance of study lies in the theoretical aspect and practical aspect. It adapts acomparatively systematic and comprehensive perspective to discuss the effects ofnonintellectual factors on English learning, especially on vocational school students, thestate of which gets little attention in this field.

I Introduction


1.1 Background of the Study
Always, students and quality of secondary vocational school has its own characteristic.Most of the students have learning obstacles, especially in English learning, and theybecome a great number of English underachievers. These kinds of students find thatEnglish is difficult and weary to learn, lacking learning motivation and interest. As a resultof poor performance in some students, they give themselves up hopelessly, lack ofself-esteem and self-confidence. They will not work anyway, simply not to learn. Andteachers complained that students not "learning materials". Both teachers and students havea one-sided understanding of the conditions of intellectual factors, ignoring thenon-intelligence factors.In fact, the main issue is the psychological state of the students. The majority ofstudents have good individual intelligence .So it is not all because of their intelligencelevel. It is due to the students’ non-intellectual factors in a large degree. The learners’non-intellectual factors refer to the psychological factors such as motivation, will, interest,emotion and habit. This paper mainly focuses on getting a clearer understanding about therelationship between the level of secondary vocational school English underachievers’non-intellectual factors and English learning from a comparatively systematic andcomprehensive perspective. Then the English teachers find the methods and strategies tocultivate students’ non -intellectual factors, enhancing the effect of English learning andhelp our secondary vocational English teaching present a positive state.

1.2 Significance of the Study
The Significance of study lies in the theoretical aspect and practical aspect. It adapts acomparatively systematic and comprehensive perspective to discuss the effects ofnonintellectual factors on English learning, especially on vocational school students, thestate of which gets little attention in this field. Principle and strategies put forward to solvethe problems are not only beneficial to improve the effect and efficiency of Englishlearning, but also useful to help our language teaching be in a state of harmony andactualize students’ development as a whole person.

II Literature Review


2.1 Definition of Nonintellectual Factors
Intelligence is an important factor affecting learning, which is a comprehensivecognitive ability, refers to attention, observation, memory, imagination and thinking abilityof organic combination of five basic elements. What are nonintellectual factors?In 1935, American psychologist Allemande in his Intelligence : Concrete And TheAbstract mentioned that in terms of intellectual development , not only we should patattention to the general intelligence, verbal ability and practical ability , but also we shouldpay attention to interest and temperament factors. Under the influence of Allemande, D.Wechsler put forward the concept of non-intellectual factors in 1943. And then from the1950s to the 1980s, the concept of non-intellectual factors gained further research,especially in the field of cognitive psychology and development psychology.
