Therefore, the enlargement of this study will not only fill in gaps in the emptiness  of  pragmatic  vagueness  in  the  job  program  but  also  stretch  and  augment  the scope of empirical research on pragmatic vagueness.

1.2 Research Purpose  
Recently,  linguists  have  shown  widespread  concern  about  researches  on  pragmatic vagueness,  but  pragmatic  vagueness  in  job  interviews  was  rarely  involved.  Occupation program, as a specialized field of study, is still in its infancy in China. Therefore, this paper will  employ  Verschueren's  Adaptation  Theory  as  the  theoretical  framework  to  study pragmatic vagueness in recruitment interviews. Verschueren's Adaptation Theory is widely used in the fields of the pragmatic studies.The current research is striving to study pragmatic vagueness within the theoretical framework  of  the  Adaptation  Theory.  During  the  investigation  and  exploration  of  the pragmatic vagueness in the reality show, two research questions are raised and need to be addressed  in  this  study:  (1)  How  is  pragmatic  vagueness  applied  and  realized  in  “The Apprentice”? (2) What are the communicative functions of pragmatic vagueness in “The Apprentice”?

Chapter 2 literature review 

This chapter is the literature review of relevant studies on the vagueness, pragmatic vagueness, the Adaptation Theory and the introduction to “The Apprentice”. Meanwhile, the author will give a detailed description about related terms both abroad and at home.  

2.1 Relevant studies on vagueness
There  has  been  a  large  amount  of  researches  on  vagueness  in  academia  for  many years. In order to better demonstrate the related literature review, the author will elaborate on  each item concerning  vagueness  in  a chronological order.  The ensuing passages  will illustrate various viewpoints on the term vagueness and pragmatic vagueness respectively.
