摘要:本文是英语毕业论文,本研究的结果对英语二语语音教学具有积极意义。英语教师和英语学习者应该重视汉语和英语这两种语音系统的不同之处,以避免母语语音对英语发音的影响。
ndout whether Chinese sounds or Changchun dialectal accent influence Cc ELs’ Englishvowel production. The acoustic data(F1, F2, duration) are extracted with the help ofPRAAT, a speech annotation and analysis software. And the data produced by thetwo groups (Changchun English Learners and native English speakers) will becompared so as to find the similarities and differences between them, and somefigures and charts will be adopted to make the results more vivid and easier tounderstand.

Chapter Two Literature Review
This chapter will first introduce some concepts of vowels, including vowelarticulation and the formants of vowels. Then it will introduce the classification ofEnglish vowels and the previous studies on English vowels both at home and abroad.
2.1 Vowels
There are different vowels in different sound systems. Different vowels havedifferent formants (F1, F2, F3 and so on). Each vowel is distinctive in the first twoformant frequencies. So people can distinguish one vowel from another by their F1and F2 values. This section will introduce the vowel articulation and the formants ofvowels.Vowels are sounds in which there is no obstruction to the flow of air as it passesfrom the larynx to the lips. Human being’s vocal organs can produce numeroussounds, but only a small number of them make up of our language sound system.Vowels play an important role in the sound system of all languages. The source-filtertheory of vowel production (Fant, 1970) considers vowel production to be acombination of two factors. The vocal folds restrict the flow of air through thepharynx, producing vibration and sound. The sound passes through the oral cavity, where it resonates. The shape of the oral cavity makes the sound resonate at specificfrequencies. The combination of the resonating frequencies produces a vowel sound. The speaker can change the shape of the oral cavity by altering the position of thejaw, the tongue and lips to produce different resonant frequencies that are perceivedas different vowel sounds.

2.2 English Vowels
This thesis researches the acquisition of English vowels by Cc ELs. So it isnecessary to introduce the classification of English vowels and the previous studieson English vowels.Monophthongs usually have a single vocalic sound of fairly steady quality.According to Olive, Greenwood & Coleman(1993), vowels whose quality remainsrelatively constant are known as monophthongs. From acoustics, the formantfrequencies of monophthongs have little obvious ups and downs. There are 12monophthongs in English, Figure 2.2 is the international vowel chart, which canhelp us understand the classification and distribution of vowels easier.Besides, vowels can also be classified according to the length (duration) of theirarticulation. They can be sustained for shorter or longer time. Many languages, including English, have the distinction between long and short vowels. Chinesedoesn’t have the distinction. In respect of vowel length (duration), Englishmonophthongs can be divided into two groups:
