1.2 Research Purpose and Significance 
English comprehension is crucial to college students with their language learning. In this research,  the  author  aims  to  improve  traditional  language  teaching  with  the  help  of  multi modal theory and multiliteracies, as well as to improve college students with their interest in language learning.  In  theory,  multiliteracies  based  on  sociosemiotics  are  the  product  of  system-functional linguistics  to  the  development  of  new  media  era.  When  facing  this  new  concept,  theoretical circles are still carrying out the positive exploration in theoretical framework, training model, teaching  content,  teaching  steps,  learning  methods,  etc..  In  this  research,  the  author  applied training  mode  of  multiliteracies  to  college  English  majors;  to  a  certain  extent,  it  could improve  the  understanding  of  this  new  training  mode  for  college  language  learners. Multiliteracies  could  also  provide  some  theoretical  basis  for  teachers  to  make  teaching contents, steps and methods. The combination of multiliteracies culture and language teaching would  improve  the  systematicness  and  effectiveness  of  the practice  of  multiliteracies  among college language learners.

2.1 Literacy and Multiliteracies 
2.1.1 The Origin of Literacy 
Street  (1984)  thought  'Literacy'  is  divided  into  '  Autonomous  Literacy  Model'  and 'Ideological  Literacy  Model'.  The  former  classifies  literacy  as  a  skill,  which  could  not  be influenced  by  the social  background  with  neutral  values;  however,  it  will  have  an  impact  on other  social  and  cognitive  behavior.  The  latter  think  literacy  is  related  to  the  social  context because  rich  context  of  reading  process  will  produce  different  results;  thus,  the  value produced is usually associated with ideology.
