financial industry. China’s banking system has undergone a lot of changes in the last two decades: banks are now functioning more like banks than before. Nevertheless, China’s banking industry has remained in the government’s hands even though banks have gained more autonomy. China’s accession to the WTO, however, has lead to a significant opening of this industry to foreign participation.

1.2 Present financial situation
Nowadays, the economy slows in China, as the global economic slump takes its toll. The subprime mortgage crisis is a current economic problem characterized by contracted liquidity in the global credit markets and banking system. An undervaluation of real risk in the subprime market ultimately resulted in cascades and ripple effects affecting the world economy generally. Because the changing of the environment, it is growing harder to say that China is relatively immune from global financial and economic problem.

And from this research, banks can get so much information about the macro-environment to help them to avoid the risk effectively or try their best to diminish this financial concussion in a large extent, and as an investment bank, we can know how to face the opportunity and challenge ingenious as well. Furthermore, China’s financial position is not perfect, as non-performing loans are rising and some city banks are suspected of having problems, there still appears to be substantial room to relax fiscal and monetary policies. Like the big national banks appear to be in good condition, with abundant liquidity because of lending caps that have become increasingly stringent over the past two years.

China’s financial system is a typical band-based financial system; banking industry holds an absolute dominant position in China’s financial system. So it must adopt some measures to control and solve the crisis, as the economical measures and political measures, which is not only necessary for the whole financial industry, but also for the whole society as well.

1.3 Structure of the project
The remainder of the paper is organized as follows. Chapter 2 collects some information about the bank industry through three important parts political, economic and social. This information will assist us to have a clear understand on the present macro-environment. Chapter 3 includes the selection and justifying of methodology, action plan, data collection and monitor during the project process. And Chapter 4 gives some data analysis and the description also from the three parts of PESTEL analysis, which would be a whole view of this issue. Such a study should give an insight into the banking industry, how should this industry exist and develop in present environmental situation. Chapter 5 and 6 puts forward out viewpoints on the challenges and opportunities of China’s banking system and also summarizes the findings of this paper as well.

Literature Review
PESTEL approach stands for political, economic, social, technical, environment and legislative that could affect the strategic development of a business. Identifying PESTEL influences is a useful way of summarizing the external environment in which a business operates. It was originally called the ETPS and was quoted in Aguilar Francis (1967), Environment is a source of uncertainty, depending on how complex or dynamic it is, relevant PESTEL factors need to be identified and monitored in every organization.
