These are general guidelines to follow when writing assignments.
Planning
1. Have you analysed the title carefully to make sure you understand exactly what is required by the answer?  It is important not to write an assignment based only on a general analysis of the topic. You must answer the question directly.

4. Is the evidence sufficiently varied?  Case studies, statistics, facts, tables diagrams, direct quotes and paraphrasing are all possible forms of evidence that could be used.
5. Have you got a viable outline for the assignment, which can serve as a  guide when you are in the process of putting together all the sections? In the outline, the main points relating to the introduction, sections of the main body and the conclusion should be set out, so you can continually check that you are following a tight and logical framework  as you work on the assignment.

1. Have you set out a clear and concise introduction, in which the importance of the topic is made clear?  Have you provided  a Statement of Organisation, setting out how the assignment is going to  be structured?  Have you set out your own thesis/line of argument? 2. Have you summarised the main arguments clearly and concisely and named the important writers who support those arguments?
3. Have you set out the strengths and weaknesses of the main arguments with supporting evidence clearly and concisely?
4. Have you summarised the main counter-arguments clearly and concisely and named important writers who support those counter-arguments?
5. Have you set out the strengths and weaknesses of the main counter-arguments with supporting evidence clearly and concisely?
6. Have you produced your own analysis and opinion based on sufficien support for a thesis/line of argument?
7. Have you refuted the counter-arguments to your thesis/line of argument by showing why these counter-arguments are weaker than the thesis/line of argument that you support?
