It is a reason why “the firstimpression” performs such significant functions in daily interpersonal communication.Similarly, lead-in, the first step of the classroom teaching, is an indispensable partconsidered by the educators and researchers in the classroom activities. There is nodoubt that this step lasts in a short time. It indicates that teachers adopt unique stylesand creative strategies in the teaching in 3- 5 minutes to attract students’ interest,guide them into the relaxing, comfortable English environment and positive studystate. Hence, its role cannot be neglected or underestimated.Lead-in is filled with magic power, whose effect is large. Not only can aneffective lead-in draw students’ attention, initiate their thinking and stimulate theirintrinsic motivation for knowledge, but also it can make the students get into optimalstate of study happily. Besides, lead-in serves as a tool for the students to obtain aclear understanding of the studying objectives for the lesson. Through the process, thestudents can build up a concrete and accurate relations between the old and the newknowledge of English, fully ready for what they are going to learn in both psychologyand cognition. Then the students will play more active roles in the followingclassroom activities. As a result, the classroom activities, which make the teachingefficient and the teaching objectives are explained and achieved, will go smoothly andsuccessfully. In addition, this form provides the good classroom atmosphere forteachers and students. All the ideas what it leaves to are beneficial to the students formany years.
The process of English learning is a process that leads students to form activeemotion and attitude towards classroom activities, especially many new words,sentence patterns and difficult points. Lead-in as a key link influences the completionand efficiency of every teaching procedures, even decides the success or failure of the whole class.


1.2 Problems in lead-in in senior high school English class
Effective teaching is put forward and emphasized by educators for many times inthe field of Education both at home and abroad. More and more educators focus theirattention on working out the requirements of the National English Curriculum. Thebasic objective of the National English Curriculum for the senior high school is toencourage students have the further understanding of the English learning:to keep,develop their self-access and cooperative learning ability, to cultivate their desire,cofidence, intrinsic motivation and collaborative spirit; to provoke their awareness ofautonomous learning.
