2. Literature Review and Theoretical Framework Basis


2.1 The Two Definitions
Interaction is a concept which is introduced from the field of social psychology into theteaching theory. Since 1960’s, people began to make the breakthrough at the limitations oflanguage systems and sentence structure.They began to study the use of language, language ability, the language function, socialenvironment and the cultural background which use the language. Socialization of languagemade language teaching ways reforms. Interactions was introduced into the classroom andgradually plays a key role. However, there many different understandings and concepts aboutthe interaction.Concept of “interaction” first appeared in G.H. Meader’s illustration of a “symbolicinteraction”. He held that the “interaction” is a kind of action process which is based on thesymbols and language interaction process. Human social interaction is on the basis ofmeaningful symbol of the action process. Rivers(1997) definite the interaction: “Studentsachieve facility in using a language when their attention is focused on conveying andreceiving authentic messages (that is, massages that contain information of interest to speakerand listener in a situation of importance to both ), This is interaction.” Brown(2001) holdsthat “Interaction is the collaborative exchange of thoughts, feelings, or ideas between two ormore people resulting in a reciprocal effect on each other.”

2.2 Current Studies on English Classroom Interaction
The field of interactive language teaching has been focused by EFL teachers andlinguistic experts in the West for many years. The main concern with classroom interaction isabout the relationship between classroom interaction and language acquisition. Many of theinteraction research and SLA research are between interaction and acquisition. (Seliger,1977;Brown 2001; Ellis 2994; Rivers 1987). There are many different aspects of classroominteraction research. Firstly, research on classroom teaching is the earliest research on the teacher’s talkbehavior abroad was Kratz in 1896. He did research on the good teachers talk which haveexcellent quality, then made a scale of teacher talk characteristics. It provides the basis forimproving teachers' teaching behavior. This shows that the behavior of the teacher talk beganto enter into a further period (Chen Kuixi, 1992:1992-105).The sixties of the 20th century to the early seventies, teacher talk behavior researchstarted trying to use classroom discourse behavior perspective to analyze the relationshipbetween the teacher talk behavior and the teaching effect. Moreover, people also began toexamine the factors affecting the behavior of teacher talk so that improve teachers' teachingefficiency and teachers' teaching level.
