Chapter Four Data analysis and discussion

The purpose of this chapter is to cope with the results of the data collected from thepre-post questionnaire, pre-post test and interview by the SPSS software. Throughanalyzing these data, the answers of the research questions could be found.

4.1 Data analysis and discussion of Research Question One

In order to prove the Research Question One, the questionnaire and interview areconducted in EC and CC. The analysis of the results of the questionnaire and interviewwould be demonstrated in this part.The pre-questionnaire (Appendix I) is carried out before the experiment for the twoclasses to investigate the situation of the application of students’ learning strategies indoing cloze. The post-questionnaire, the same with the pre-questionnaire, is carried out inthe experimental class and control class at the end of the experiment. And then thecomparison and analysis of the results of the two questionnaires is made through SPSS19.00 to find out whether the contextual teaching can change and improve students’learning strategies in doing cloze. The questionnaire includes 12 items which involvesthree dimensions of learning strategies, such as cognitive strategies, meta-cognitivestrategies and affective strategies. Items 1-4 belong to the cognitive dimension, items 5-8are part of the meta-cognitive dimension and items 9- 12 pertain to the affective dimension.Based on the three dimensions, the results of the questionnaire are analyzed by SPSS. Theanalysis of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire from three dimensions is displayed asfollow:

Conclusion

After this research, a conclusion should be drawn in this chapter. This chapter playsan important role in the whole research, which includes four parts, such as the majorfindings, implications, limitations of the research and some suggestions for the teaching inthe future.The research applies the context theory to the cloze in senior high school so as to helpteachers find out an effective teaching method to enhance students’ cloze test scores andcultivate students’ learning strategies in doing cloze. After 16 weeks’ research, some majorfindings will be concluded as follows:In the first place, it can be found that the students’ learning strategies in doing clozehave been improved through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview by the SPSSsoftware.
