GENERAL INFORMATION
MODULE AIM

why you have to do a dissertation, that's the reason! You will find that this module is different from any other module you have taken. Essentially you, and only you, are responsible for your dissertation. Although you will be guided by an academic supervisor, you will have sole responsibility for doing the research and the writing.
This can be an exciting journey, as you become an expert in the area you are investigating. It can also be one of the most stressful experiences of your life if you do not keep on top of the workload this module generates. You need to manage the process and time management is key.
One of the reasons why we asked you to submit a Research Proposal, as part of the Business Research Methods module in Degree year, is so that you can begin work on your dissertation over the summer vacation. Accordingly you have been allocated a Supervisor and you should make contact with your Supervisor before you both begin your summer vacations (Further information is given in this document). You should note that your Supervisor will not be available to meet with you or communicate with you again until you return for Honours Year in September. Separate arrangements apply to students entering directly into Honours Year from other UK or overseas institutions. Such students will be expected to write a brief research proposal on arrival to the University and will then be allocated a supervisor. Details will be given during Induction.
When you begin your Honours Year in September you will have access to the Blackboard Site for the Honours Dissertation: Common Core. This site contains the information you will need for your journey so make use of it. In the Course Information folder you will find general information about Research Ethics, Grading and Attendance policies, the Regulations surrounding the submission of your Dissertation and information about Referencing and Plagiarism. The Course Material folder contains the Module Handout and information about the short Lecture Programme. The Assignments folder will contain information about how and when you should submit your Dissertation, together with information on how to submit Progress Reports.
