1.0 Introduction

A Chinatown is the area in which Chinese populate in other countries. The formation of Chinatown was because of the immigration of early Chinese overseas, forming local minorities, as they needed to pull together in the face of the new environment, so they lived in groups in a zone (Zhou 1995, 205). Throughout the history of the development of the Chinatowns for hundreds of years, there is a problem that has aroused the interest of many scholars, that is why in the social environment where there is racial discrimination and atmosphere of discrimination against Chinese in America, Australia, Chinatown did not wither gradually but survived and showed a strong vitality, the economy has made tremendous development (Zhou 1995, 268). The author of this study believes that this comes down to number of reasons, such as political, economic, social, cultural, demographic, as well as many other factors. Due to the length of this essay, it is from the point of view of demographic structure to explore this issue. This study takes Chinatowns in the United States as the research object to explore the three major changes in demographic structure in the history of the Chinatown in the United States, as well as the impact of these changes on the Chinatowns’ economy, at the end of the article, the author tries to predict the impact of the future demographic structure on the economy of the Chinatowns.
