is witnessing an explosion of information and knowledge and an
increasing complexity of subject matter in many domains. Influenced by the changes in the
amount and complexity of knowledge and information, especially the World Wide Web has
become an important knowledge and communication resource, a change in the culture of
learning and working is taking place (Schnurer, Stark & Mandl, 2003). Many of us are so
involved in the new ways of accessing knowledge that we have forgotten how recent the
change to computerized knowledge retrieval is with search engines operating on https://www.51lunwen.org/liuxuelunwendx/the World
Wide Web. However the content of knowledge extracting from the web is often complex,
ill-structured, represented in different information repositories, not pre- selected and
pre-designed. To approach the problem, visualization technique was introduced. Visualization
has proven to be an effective strategy for supporting users in coping with complexity in
knowledge- and information- rich scenarios (T. Keller and S.Tergan, 2005).
Knowledge visualization through the web aims at the process of charting, mining, analyzing,
sorting, enabling navigation of, and displaying knowledge. Also visualizations of knowledge
are needed to make knowledge explicit and better usable, as well as to make sense of
information structures. Visualizations concerning structures of knowledge and information are
suggested to help seekers of knowledge coping with subject-matter complexity and
ill-structure. Also visualization may help seekers of knowledge to elicit, co-construct,
structure and restructure, elaborate, evaluate, locate and access, communicate, and use ideas,
thoughts and knowledge about relevant content and resourcesmpare and evaluated different web-based knowledge visualization
applications. The basic idea underlying the knowledge visualization and information
visualization are outline. The conceptual framework of knowledge visualization has been
reviewed. A 3-D matrix has been built to help knowledge worker to identify a suitable

To distinguish between information and knowledge visualization, we first need to distinguish
between information and knowledge. There have been numerous attempts to define the
terms information and knowledge. Bellinger, Castro, & Mills has defined the terms below.

Information is data that has been given meaning through interpretation by way of relational
connection and pragmatic context. This “meaning” can be useful, but does not have to be.
Information provides answers to “who”, “what”, “where”, “why”, or “when” questions. From
there, data that has been given meaning by somebody and, hence, has become information,
may still be data for others who do not comprehend its meaning.
Knowledge is the appropriate collection of information, such that its intent is to be useful.
Knowledge provides answer to “how” question. Knowledge is a deterministic process. When
