Moiré Pattern and Image Crosstalk Reduction in 3D Mobile Display
1. Introduction
As 3G mobile phones 代写留学生论文 become more popular, 3D image displayis expected to lead next generation of mobile phone.Autostereoscopic 3D displays, which are generally classified intospatial and time-multiplexing types, yield more natural 3D imageswithout glasses. The spatial-multiplexed displays include parallaxbarrier or lenticular lens, which have disadvantages of lowerresolution and difficult alignment. Thus time-multiplexed displays, without alignment issues and reduction of resolution, wereproposed [1, 2]. The emitting light is redirected to viewer’s rightand left eyes by switching the light source sequentially. A noveltime-multiplexed display [3] with a dual directional lightguide isshown in Fig. 1. A micro-grooved structure is patterned to restrictthe viewing cones and form uniform image. However, moirépattern [4] is induced by the close period of color filter andmicro-grooved structure. Additionally, image crosstalk happenswhen switching between left and right sub-frames due toinsufficient LC response time. A pair of parallax images displayedat the same time result in unobvious 3D effect.
In this paper, we propose the modified micro-grooved structureto resolve the issue of moiré pattern and a sequential drivingscheme to suppress the crosstalk, respectively. In the followingsections, the suppression of moiré pattern was analyzed, followe by the novel driving scheme and experimental results. The directionality, uniformity and crosstalk were discussed.
2. Lightguide and Driving Design
The schematic of micro-grooved lightguide and color filter inorder to explain the moiré pattern is shown in Fig. 2. Moirépattern is caused by close periods of the micro-grooved structureand the color filter. In Fig. 2, the long side of sub-pixel is arrangedparallel with grooves. Therefore, color filter pitch is according tosub-pixel width. Fig. 3 shows the moiré patterns when the colorfilter is designed parallel with the direction of groove. Color filterpitch is about 70 μm and its integer multiple is located in therange of gradual groove pitch from 25um to 365um [3]. Thepattern is obvious and color separation effect is sensible. In orderto make the integer multiple of color filter pitch out of gradualgroove range, the vertical arrangement of color filter is chosendue to the pitch is 3 times larger than that of parallel placement. The schematic is shown in Fig. 4. The moiré pattern shown in Fig.5 is obviously suppressed in comparison with parallel one.
