摘要：This paper mainly describes and analyses the linguistic features of China English shown at the linguistic levels of phonology,lexis,syntax and discourse.It is also pointed out that the study of China English especially its linguistic features is of great value to English teaching and learning in China.

Introduction
0.1 English as an international language
Of the over five thousand languages in the world,English is the most widely used language.Since the past half century,English has become a Lingua Franca.It is estimated that the total number of the persons speaking English in the world had reached two billion by the end of the twentieth century(Todd 1995:41).From the Eastern Hemisphere to the Western one,people can hear various“Englishes,”which means that English has many varieties.Apart from the“standard”British English and American English,there are other Englishes such as Canadian English,Australian English,New Zealand English,Indian English,South African English,Singapore English,Malta English,Zambia English,Hongkong English,Japanese English,China English.(Wan Changsheng 1994:36).
People have reason to believe that English is a tool for international communication;it is not in the possession of a particular nation,but just a neutral communication medium.Also,“British English and American English are not considered as the only two existing standard Englishes,but just as the two English varieties used in the two different countries.”(Wang Rongpei 1991:2).English internationalization will certainly result in its localization or nativization.Different regions or countries vary from each other because they have different histories, cultures,traditions,politics,economies and life styles.People in different regions or countries have their specific English expressions when they speak or write in English. The Englishes branded with varied cultures make English more inclusive,more diversified and more flexible,and the“correct”standard becomes more relative. The current reality is that the ever-increasing non-native English speaking countries especially the original British colonial countries declare that their Englishes are independent.Apart from such countries as India,Singapore and Nigeria where English is used as the official language,many other countries in which English is studied as a foreign language proclaim that their Englishes are of independence.M.Ridianovic makes an interrogation in his paper,“If Pakistan English exists,why we cannot have our Yugoslavian English?”(Medgyes 1992:340)Takao Suzuki argues to put Japanese contents and other non-English cultures in the form of English language(Tripathi 1992: 4).
From the above statement,we can see clearly that English has become an international language.The fact that the English varieties serve various functions of social communication requires us to make a full investigation and research in the varieties and their distinctive cultures.Only by doing so,can English as a world language successfully serve its communication function across cultures and national boundaries.
