基于性别歧视现象剖析英语中的称谓语

Introduction
The study on sexism in language,especially in English has been highlighted as a hot issue in the linguistic domain for a long time.The thought that women are inferior to men has been widely accepted in society.Sexism is referred as the unequal treatment one gender holds to the other gender,typically men to women.So sexism is mainly referred as the discrimination to women.It is reflected not only in the unequal status of men and women,but also in language.
Language,as a mirror of society,records the development and change of society,and reflects social reality.The relationship between language and gender is a popular issue in linguistics and sociolinguistics.In 1960s,feminist movement rose in the west,and there appeared more and more researches on language and gender.In 1975,Lakoff put out the term“women’s language” in 1970 and published Language and Women’s Place in 1975,which is the only work that had direct linguistic impact on the systematic study of gender and language.
Thorne and Henley,Dale Spender,Mary Rithchie Key,as well as other scholars have done many significant explorationsand have proved that there exists sexism between genders in language using,and then expounded the reasons for sexism.Influenced by the foreign researchers,many Chinese scholars,such as, Chen Yuan,Jia Yuxin,Dai Weidong have also made great contributions in this field. An address term is a word,phrase,name,or title(or some combination of these)used in addressing someone.It may be friendly,unfriendly,or neutral;respectful,disrespectful,or comradely.Address terms,as an indispensable social behaviour of human society,is of great historical and cultural significance.They can reflect the mental state of the society and value orientation of their users,as well as the differences in language using between different genders.
The changes of address terms can reflect the social influence and different social expectation to genders.At the same time,different genders affect and restrict the emergence and development of address terms.The study on address terms began in the 19th century,with some American anthropologists in their study on societies and races.Many researchers both in and abroad have made some researches on address terms,such as Albert Gilman and Roger Brown,Marguerite Ford and Roger Brown,Susan Ervin-Tripp,and Friedrike Braun,in the west,and Zhao Yuanren, Zhu Wanjin,Tian Huigang,in China.
