Research into Consecutive Interpretation of Press Conference Based on Interpretive Theory and Function Plus Loyalty Theory

Abstract: Interpretation has existed since the primitive society. Consecutive interpreting (CI) is a mode of translation that involves orally translating the message between two or more speakers who do not speak the same language, and its distinctive feature is that the interpreter provides the target language version immediately after the speaker has finished speaking. With https://www.51lunwen.org/languagethesis/ the development of globalization and China’s entry into WTO, the communications among people from different nations of various languages with diverse cultural background are increasingly going on, in which interpreting plays a significant role in bridging the gaps between the participants. With reference to the linguistics books of the function principles, the discourse aspects of linguistics, and the like, the author aims to undertake the research into the consecutive interpretation of press conference via French interpretive principle, function plus loyalty theory in an effort to provide a helpful and new perspective for the development of the research into the consecutive interpretation in China as well as recommendations for consecutive interpreters in the field. After the study, the author pointed out the importance of translation brief in the consecutive interpretation via function plus loyalty theory as well as the commonly employed strategies, firstly, interpretation with complement, secondly, interpretation with adaptation, thirdly, interpretation with ellipsis, fourthly, interpretation with explanation, fifthly, interpretation with voice conversion. Moreover, the author also listed many examples to analyze how cultural concepts have been revealed in the consecutive interpretation in the official press conference. As to the consecutive interpretation via French interpretive principle, the author analyzed how it could be undertaken via introduction of mainly three steps, i.e., the comprehension phase, getting away from the primitive language phase, and the re-expression of the source discourse.

中文摘要：口译从远古社会就已存在。交替传译是一种对两个或以上的持不同语言的谈话者的交流进行的翻译活动。其显著特征是译者在谈话者结束谈话时立马呈现出其相应的目标语言。随着全球化发展和中国的入世，口译在交流愈来愈多来自全球各个国家持不同语言和不同文化的人们之间的交流中显得日趋重要。在参考了功能原则和语篇分析的基础上，借助法国释义原则和功能加忠诚原则，作者通过对新闻发布会的交替传译旨在为口译工作者提供新翻译建议以及相关的学者提供参考建议。通过研究作者发现了新闻发布会交替传译中基于功能加忠诚原则的精炼翻译的重要性。首先，交替传译中口译须结合补充，其次，在口译须根据需要做出调整，再次，在口译中采取适当省略，此外，口译必要时须做出解释，最后，在交替传译中，得有适当的语音转换。作者通过研究还发现，在新闻发布会交替传译中，译者通常采用三个步骤来完成交传工作，即是，理解阶段，脱离原语言阶段和语言目标语再呈现。
