　　1.1 Background of the Study研究背景

Linking the surface of talk and text tothe underlying ideologies is a process fraught with complexities and contradictions.What will be needed is a series of steps to elucidate the indirect ideological control ofdiscourses in such cases. To unveil such ideological structures behind lines, a.concept---semantic prosody—originating from Corpus Linguistics will be introduced. Itwill be applied as the channel of revealing different ideological patterns. And as is thecommon technique of Corpus Linguistics, a large corpus---British National Corpus(BNC) ---will be referred to for extracting raw data. By comparing semantic prosodiessummarized from BNC and those from the local contexts of the texts under exploration，the authors’ special ideological structures can be fixed. And through comparing theundertones of the translators and that of the writers, the power manipulation and thedriving force of the manipulation will be clear.

　　 A reader of translation will receive a sort of split message coming from two differentaddressers，both original, although in two different senses, one originating from theauthor which is elaborated and mediated by the translator, and the other---the languageof the translation itself—originating directly from the translator. This is critical for theinterpretation of the linguistic analysis of manipulation and distortion both in sourcetexts and their translations. Ideological analysis of language and discourse is a widelypracticed，scholarly and critical endeavor in humanities and social sciences. Thepresupposition of such analysis is that ideologies of speakers or writers may beuncovered by close reading, understanding and systematic analysis, if language usersexplicitly or unwittingly express their ideologies through language and communication.And there are many ways to uncover ideologies as presented in the literature review,most of which focus on a discourse leve】 with a qualitative examination. In order todiscover the ideological influence behind the source texts and their translations, theideological analysis of this research will be conducted mainly at the lexical level，withcontexts of the discourses taken into consideration. Because if lexical research over the】ast 50 years has taught us anything, it is that words do not occur at random. So the "choice of words has much to be drilled.
